Times of Despair

Times of Despair

These times, spoken in loud voices
Speak of large clouds, dark and looming
Descending downwards
Hovering over every horizon
Tainting the silver lining expected
Now tarnished, refusing to shine

Words of torment, rain down in a torrent
Crashing down into the unsuspecting crowd
Forming pools of stagnant waste
Through which many must wade
Listening to the tirade
Of loss

Rising fast beneath their feet
Many are swept aside
In this mighty rushing tide
Toppling those who stood at the top

Stumbling through shifting sands
Each day becomes an endless reminder
Of past possessions and positions

All must start anew
Many wish to refuse
Seeking a swift, sweet end
Rather than face the truth
Making a truce
Encountering new balances

Permanent solutions
To temporary situations
To a passing storm
When crisis comes knocking

Giving in to the moment
When despair sets in
Allowing despair to win

Ignoring the glimmer shimmer
Of hope valiant
Just beyond the looming clouds
So, think and reflect upon the future

Material things
Fall apart in time
A passing fancy
No longer needed
In difficult times

What of those who get left behind?
What becomes of them?

__________________________________________
Just a little side note for those who like to jump to conclusions. This poem was not written to attack any particular individual, group or country.

This poem is about those who have decided that committing suicide is a better alternative than facing their current problems. To those left behind, it leaves in hole in their life, for this is a death that could have been prevented. It is hard enough to lose a friend or loved one through disease or accident. Suicide is the one thing that leaves a person shaking their head, feeling confused and sometimes angry.

This seems to be an all too common theme today. Taking your own life is a permanent solution to a temporary situation and no one wins.
